Waiting for the Bus

Image
“I’m not waiting one second longer. My mouth is dry enough to grow xerophytes. I need a drink.”   “Of course it came from Cuba. Can’t you read the bag?”   Would those girls try to steal her bags? Maude kept a firm grip and wished she could run. In the future, she’d shoplift lighter goods.  She’d snatched the last pair of discounted Ray Ban's from her friend’s hands. They were perfect for the walks she’d now take alone.

Worth a Smile

The neighbor’s cat had made her last trip through his back yard. Now if he could just get the bad taste out of his mouth. His human claimed she was committed to his  dental care , but substituting a garden hose for a water pic showed mighty poor judgment.  His tail had disappeared and Grandma was the prime suspect. He’d heard she’d been collecting tales for one hundred weeks.   I was certainly smiling, when I realized that this was the one hundred week marker for Succinctly Yours and just a month away from our second anniversary. Succinctly Yours offers a weekly photo and word as inspiration for your microfiction. How low can you go? Choose the 140 character or 140 word option. This week’s word was  judgment .

Maybe no one would notice that her date had a red suit and hair dyed to match.   She’d send him for popcorn. With any luck, there’d be a long line. Then she could focus on this romantic movie.   This week’s word was  zoom .

Dad said that persistence was the formula for success. Now if he could just figure out the formula for staying upright.   His dad had been an Olympic medalist, but this was Tim’s fourth year on the bunny slope. Skiing must be a recessive gene. Eight years later, Tim took the town by surprise, when he earned three gold medals… in swimming.        This week’s word was   formula .
